Director of Utility Sales – Chicago

Fonon Energy operates across the United States delivering turnkey, predictably priced renewable electricity services for commercial, government and utility customers. Using proven technology, Fonon delivers a complete service; financing, installing, owning, operating and maintaining photovoltaic power plants at the customer’s facility.

The Director of Utility Sales will have a deep understanding of the utility industry (Investor and Publicly Owned Electric Utilities) and will utilize that understanding to develop profitable and innovative product initiatives. The Director of Utility Sales must have experience in selling large scale projects to utility customers. The Director of Utility Sales must combine the financial acumen and sales experience to identify solutions which enable the customer to utilize solar solutions as a meaningful component to their ongoing renewable energy strategy.

General and Position-Specific Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy and Positioning – The Director of Utility Sales plays a crucial role in determining the product strategy and financial solutions which can be customized to meet the customers clean energy needs. The candidate must be able to understand the customers desire to Rate Base certain components and build a balanced solution which benefits both the customer and ASP.
  • The Director of Utility Sales must penetrate the targeted organizations and establish who the key decision makers are in the given organizations. The sales person must be able to build relationships which seek a long term relationship (solution sale) versus simple System Sale.
  • This position will own the customer relationship and work with marketing, engineering, finance and service to interface the entire ASP organization to understand the customers’ needs and future plans.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of Sales to Utility Customers of highly complex systems and solutions
  • MBA strongly preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and analytical skills
  • Deep understanding of the electric utility industry
  • Exceptional communications skills, including inter-personal, writing, and speaking
  • Ability to work effectively, knowledgeably and collaboratively with a wide range of internal company functions
